Bond director Lewis Gilbert dies in Monaco
The man behind three of the most iconic James Bond movies
Popular British filmmaker Lewis Gilbert, director of three of the most popular James Bond films of all times, 'You Only Live Twice', 'The Spy Who Loved Me' and 'Moonraker', died in Monaco last night at the age of 97.
Born in Hackney (London), Gilbert was behind more than 40 films including 'Alfie' starring Michael Caine, 'Educating Rita' and 'Reach for the Sky', for which he won two BAFTAs. He was also nominated for several Oscars.
He moved to Monaco in 1975 and stayed here until his death at home last night. His passing comes less than a year after legendary Bond actor Sir Roger Moore's in May 2017, who was also a resident in Monte-Carlo. Our thoughts are with his family.
