Grosjean pays homage to Bianchi in Monaco
Helmet designed with a tribute to the late Jules Bianchi
Monaco is seen as a 'home' track for many of the F1 drivers. Some are from close by, others have moved there in recent years. But for many this is the track to win on and to perform at your very best.
This is exactly what a young Jules Bianchi did in 2014, when he finished ninth in the Monaco Grand Prix. Romain Grosjean came in eighth, just ahead of his friend Bianchi, but for both the Marussia team and Bianchi this was their first and only points in Formula One.
Sadly Jules Bianchi passed away on 17th July 2015 after sustaining critical injuries during a crash in the Japanese Grand Prix in October 2014. Originally from Nice the young Formula 1 driver grew up in Brignoles in the Var Region of Provence and drove for the English & Russian team Marussia. Monaco was indeed his 'home' circuit and he will be dearly missing during the 2016 event.
Romain Grosjean will be wearing a helmet that has been designed in tribute to Jules Bianchi at the Monaco F1 Grand Prix this weekend. One way to remember what was his best ever performance in this event in 2014. The No. 17 on the back of the helmet is in reference to 17th July 2015 - the day Bianchi passed away.
"I remember him fondly. I will be carrying his name and colours on my race helmet this weekend in Monaco," says Grosjean. "I want Jules to always be with us, and to be a part of our big family. I know his Dad will be in Monaco this weekend. Jules managed to score the only points in Manor Racing’s history to-date, and there’s no way before that race you’d have said that would have been possible. Jules made it happen!"
